what has more engine potential yfz or raptor?

I'm not sure on the price for the stuff yet but I know the YZF already has like a 13:1 piston kit out and I think there is a cam upgrade and there are plenty of exhaust upgrades already. I have no clue how much this stuff will help the already somewhat tuned yzf, but the point is the yzf has upgrades if desired. As for the raptor, the sky is the limit. 660, 686, 696, 700, 727, 770, I believe that is most of the displacement combos a raptor can have.

The YFZ being a slightly "Higher Tech" engine will always make more power per cubic centimeter than the Raptor's engine. However the Raptor's 220cc displacement advantage will ensure that it stays ahead of the YFZ in all out horsepower.

I've never ridden a Raptor but just goto www.dirtwheelsmag.com and read their Raptor pipe shoot out... They claim that just adding a pipe (pretty much any pipe gave at least 10 hp over stock on the dyno). That's pretty crazy... not sure if its true or not (dirt wheels is probably the most respected atv mag) but that kind of change shows the potential of the Raptor's engine. Not saying it can transfer it to fast times in CC and MX compared to a YFZ with all kinds of other goodies besides engine but the Raptor certainly seems to have more potential in the drag.

In response to dietcoke's post I have the ct pipe with K&N and what ever else dirtwheels had on the ones that they were testing but I know Im not around 50 hp and thats what dirtwheels "claims" my bike should have according to their shootout. Also I dont think many people on here respect dirtwheels but somehow they seemed to have found a way to get our money.

No its not true. You get 10hp at some place other than peak hp. They are stupid and say "look, you gained 10hp at 4700rpms!" yay, you still have 39 max hp. As far as which one has more motoro potential, I say the YZF. People with raptors will swear by their raptors, but..... I think the yfz has more potential. Somone said all the raptors were getting literaly torn apart by a tricked out crf motor in a 400ex frame, they said it even beat a 900cc street bike transplant quad.... I dont see why a slightly better motor in a lighter frame couldnt do even better.

i would probably say the rappy, not because i own one, but because the z is already somewhat modded, and the rappy is just a big engine.....

This is pretty easy. What has more POTENTIAL, a 327/350 horse Smallblock or a 454 low compression smog motor? The highly tuned smaller engine is already at the point of diminishing returns, whereas the big motor is yet to be awakened.
Put compression, porting, bigger cam, and good exhaust on the Raptor and get a big rear view mirror to spot the 450's you run away from.

BUT!!! you can get new heads, intakes etc.. on car motors. What about a 454 with crappy heads, 2 valves, and a bad intake manifold VS a 350 with 4 valves per cylinder, aluminum high performance intake, aluminum high flow heads, etc..... You can only do so much with porting, boring, pistons and cams. Some of it comes down to overall engine design or replacing major pieces.
