My buddy has a 99 500 Scrambler, last night while checking the air filter we found about half an inch of oil in the back of the airbox, we were just wondering if this is pretty common or if this could be a problem. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Over filling the oil tank can cause it to expell the extra oil threw the vent line into the air box. Some people don't drain the crankcase when changing oil and put in a full 2 quarts causing it to overfill. Most of the time its not enough to cause oil in the air box. When the 4 strokes came out it was told to fill the oil tank to the minimum side of the full mark. Make sure you screw the dipstick all the way in before removing it to check the level. There is a drain tube to remove the oil in the air box. This is a case where more is not better.

I'm not trying to be a smartas*, but if you do a search you'll find this topic has been covered quite a few times already.
