Ron Wood Stage 1
#1
I'm in the process of possibly getting the Ron Wood Stage 1 kit. Anybody out there with pros/cons to the kit. How is the spring tension on the aftermarket carb? I don't want my hand to go to sleep while riding! How is the carb setup also...true bolt on and go? No missing, hesitation, etc?
Thanks

You NEED to do the spring setup that HIGHTOWER did for his other wise your thumb will go nuts.. You need the light springs for the carb.
Yes, there is a well knowen bog with that carb. You will need to 100% tune the carb for your quad, then you can enable the accelerator pump and that should take away 90% of any noticiable bog.
Bolt and go yes and no

My 00 DS has had a RWR stage 1 on it since about a month after I bought the DS.
I would recomend a throttle spring from RWR as well. I have had no problems with my sage 1 at all. Just tune it to your bike.
I have no hesitation and no bogging on my DS with the Stage 1 and I don't have the acc pump.
IMO it's a really good product/investment.

Uhatch,
I like the stage one kit that they have put together. Remember that the pipe is a little on the loud side, but very good on performance. I think the TM-45 works best with the accel pump activated. When done right the pump deliveres awesome power with no bogging. The CDI that comes with the kit is also good.
Overall, I think the kit is a great place to start. You may consider taking the functions that the kit has and piece parting your own kit. But it sure is easy to get everything in one shot, including your jetting set!

With a properly tuned carb and A/C pump, you will get 0% bog . I for one can't use it because something is abnormal on my carb, but those who have got it to work and tuned to perfection, find it impossible to make it bog or hesitate...
I know you were referring to your almighty Lectron, but I guess I'm gonna defend the good ole TM45..

Thanks for the insight, I'm really up in the air. I'm getting a Yosh slip-on and a K & N airfilter w/ the Dynojet kit. I think I'll try that first. I already have the fastest stock 4-wheeler around , but I would just like a little cushion.
