What is the difference inside the tranny?? My buddy and I have the same gear ratio, same tires, same motor mods and he beats me out of the hole everytime.

 

One more thing, his is an 01 and mine is the 02

 

2001 has wider ratios and a much higher 1st gear.

02 was adjusted because of complaints of a too high 1st gear, and reverse.

ok, so second gear on up is the same on both years of bikes?

 

No, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are different on 02 vs 01's. 4th 5th are the same. The complaint was, at least mine, was the large gap between 1st and 2nd gear.

The first 3 gears on the 02's are lower. The large gap between 1st and 2nd is still present but less noticable because 2nd is lower than second on the 01. jmo.

 

Thanks wshrdskin!! So now I have something to go on. I got to get mine setup just in between cuz I know I wont be able to get it the same.

 

The 01 Raptor tranny utilizes torque more efficient.....you could try gearing up for better acceleration.....but it may hurt you in 4th and 5th.
