Riding in Baja Mexico

Planning to head down south next weekend. Some dunes near Rosarito. First time I have ever been there. Anyone have any advice? How are the dunes? Anything I should worry about?

Lobster. . .
Taquilla Poppers. . .
Pappas n Beer . . .
Take pictures of the riding area but, not what happens in the bar (what happens in Mexico stays in Mexico!) . . . scratch that. . . send me the pictures when you get back! ALL OF THEM!
I don't remember seeing dunes to ride on when I was down there (college spring break) but, really, that doesn't mean much - I was focused on different things.
Doesn't Greg Row (Bomb team rider) own a tour company down there somewhere? (Inland I think??)
Let us know. . . that sounds like a fun trip.

I've got to say.....
I was just there last Sunday for the day.
And I go about once a month for a "quick" fix.
It's $5 a car and $2 a bike.
There's two entrances..... use either one (you may miss the first one to the North) and explore along the beach and anywhere you can traverse. There's a climb out of a ravine you won't make without paddles (on a quad).... no big deal though. Just turn around and head out the same way you came in if you didn't come down the sandy hill. (by the way... all the Mechy's (Mexicans) that go don't wear helmets and usually have a Tecate in hand. Be careful!) And to anyone who's a Mechy... I'm not prejudice, my X wife was a mechy... I love 'em. But ... ever been to Cantamar??? If not, you don't know how nuts it can get.
I recommend you go on a Saturday than a Sunday (less Mechy's and less drunk Mechy's!!).
If you're camping overnight. Just lock your stuff. Put away what you can. Sleep lightly. If you've got a trailer or something to secure items... do it. I've never been ripped off (knock on wood)... but then I remove the temptation and play it safe. It's not the campers or other Cantamar people who rip you off... the locals (who live or pass by) are to blame.
You don't need paddles. The dunes are small. I mean... you'll be bored in an hour. Making a track, finding a jump (make sure to use a spotter for other traffic!!), racing up their small "comp" hill, ... it all gets old. Take a good snack, a cooler... and make the most of it. I was entertaining the crowds this weekend by Wheelying my CRF450 down the beach one handed... pointing at the picnickers on the beach.... too fun. I also saw a YZF450 quad too... he was an idiot. No helmet, riding double, and thinking he was hot sh*t showing off. But... oh well, his day will come (god forbid). I wear ALL my gear when I'm there... it's just too crazy on Sunday to not. You run the risk of being ran into by any form of vehicle. And I mean anything... from horses, to lifted older Suburbans with 600hp, to dogs, to .... almost anything. And play safe!!!! Remember... the closest hospital is in TJ or the States. With traffic that can be more than a couple hours... (it takes 30min max with no traffic from the border). And that's if the authorities allow you to cross with someone hurt. (my deceased friend is an example... but that's another story).
Be sure to travel back down the non toll road to Puerto Nuevo.... (you'll pass it on the way down whether or not your on the toll or non toll road). Stop and eat Lobster at Ortegas (my personal favorite!). It's down the main inlet and the last 4 story building on the right. Don't be fooled by other 'ortegas'. You'll know it's the right one when you see all the 8x10 photos on the wall. Look closely, you'll see Robert (the owner) with Jeremy McGrath!
And if your really ready for a good time... hit up Rosarito on your way home. Have a couple beers... (kind of expensive these days) at any place on the beach or close to. Papas -N- Beer is a great spot usually (I just happen to have a "free" front of line and cover card) and would only have a cover (sometimes $25 or more on major holidays) if there's a local event.
From your other recommendations;
- Stay away from bambis in TJ... it's full of transexuals.
- I don't know about Hot Fox... But I've heard "Anthonys" is great!!!
- Drinking the "unfiltered" or unbottled water could be bad. Bring your own if you can.
I hope it all helps!!!!!!!

Greg Row may want to update his website, under rentals it says that they rent the best, Honda and now Bombardier.
Wonder how Suzuki feels about that?
