Does anyone know what the valves are suppost to be set at someone told me at .005. And how do you get to them. My 10 hrs are up the dealers want over $100.00 for the first service.

 

You should wait until you hit 20 hrs and go get it done if they are a reputable dealer with a good service department (especially if you don't know how to get to the valves).
The going price is about $150.00 and I have seen it be as much as $180.00. Also, they should change the engine oil/filter as well as front and rear differential oils.....If they do all of that for $100 then it's a good deal.
You probably should get it done at least once since it's a new ride and you want it to last.

I performed valve adjustment service on my 400EX, one of my exhaust valves was off by .001 inches the other three were fine. It was a lot of work for .001 inches.If you've never adjusted valves before, I don't recommend learning how to do them now. The engine must be at TDC on the compression stroke using the timing mark.

 

your manual should show you how to do this, all my honda owners manuals do (86' 200SX, 94' XR400R, 91'XR250R ect ) as long as the cam lobe is on the oppisite side as the rocker is then you can adjust the valve

 

Has anyone gotten a service manual for a RANCHER yet???
I hope they will be out soon.
