I went to race up at the local motorcross today and a few banshees showed up. I thought they would probably wupp my 400ex off the line but to my surprise I killed them. my 400ex is completel stock. both banshees had pipes. I'm sure one of them had more inside his motor because he was raced out with peps suspension and full beadlocks. I guess its all about getting the power to the ground. WOW!

Hay dude, did you wip them banshees in the start or in the race? Because, if it was only in the start then you only won a battle, not the war. I ride a local mx track that is home to a Pro-Am contender, and he rides a banshee w/ all the goodies of course. He makes the Pro level dirt-bike riders look like beginners not to mention the rest of the Honda quads including the legendary 250R.

A lot of it is rider, but not all. You could go either way with extremes. Say, for instance, put a Pro rider on an Quadrunner 185 vs an low-average rider on a 250R, chances are the 250R would win. Put that same Pro rider on a Banshee vs the same low-average rider on the 250R and the Banshee would probably win. The machine does make a difference.
Put equal level riders on equally modified or stock bikes and the Banshee will not be in the lead in harescrambling, XC, or MX racing. Aftermarket chassied, (250R geometry) highly modified (chassis & suspension wise) Banshee's stand a better chance, but then again, why not start with an EX or R.
Here's a link to a harescramble, that took place 2 weeks ago. This is overall standings for the first 49 bikes (over 100 bikes in this race) - note that position 26 was not riding a Yamaha, but a 400EX (you'll know what I am referring to once you see the chart). There is a reason for these standings. Local MX racing show about the same order of bikes.
Now dragracing and duning are different stories.

over where i race there is a 4 stroke class and a 250 a and 250b and an open class. We don't usually pit banshees against 400EXs. Ther has been a few low turn out days where all the quad race together but they are few and far between. I can't imagine a tricked out banshee being beat by a stock EX. You must be really good at starts.
