problem w/SP600 battery idiot light constantly flashing
#1
The battery idiot light on my 2004 1/2 SP600 flashes on and off all the time (the speedo needle flashes with it). The battery is fully charged and the connections are OK. Any suggestions?

Hi Waderman,
When I installed my winch on my '06 Sp600, I had the front cover off and a little red wire with a red plug that connects to another red wire with a black plug was not reconnected, and this caused my battery light to flash and the speedo light to flash. It did it when I had my lights on and either the fan cut on or I used my winch. I know the mechanic at my Polaris dealership and he told me to check that wire (disconnected). Well, it was and it re-connected it and it has been fine since. That wire is for the charging system. You can check it first by entering the display into maintenence mode: (at least on '03's) you put it in N, hold the yellow override button, turn the eky switch to ON position, wait 2-3 seconds, start it, let off the yellow override button, then toggle through with the yellow override button until the battery screen is on. It gives you constant voltage, 12.2-12.5 at idle. If you rev it up, the voltage should increase to 14-15 vdc. If it doesn't increase, then the wire is disconnected. Then just take the front rack off (4 bolts), then the front cover (just pull up on it.) Now you can see the wires, they sould be at the front.
Hope this helps.
I love my SP600 and will never own another quad.
(Well except maybe if Polaris came out with an 800 EFI Sportsman, which is just rumor, but who knows?)

Thanks for the info. Unfortunatly, the service guy reconnected those two wires when I bought it (I noticed it flashing on the test ride). Maybe they came loose or he didn't connect them properly. I'll check it out.
