When I bought my 400EX a few months ago, the dealer offered two different Honda extended warranties--a 30 and 42-month. The average price for the 30-month (for a total of 36 months total warranty) is around $300-350, and $400-500 for the 42-month (for a total of 48 months total warranty). I went with a 30-month for $300 just for the piece of mind should something major happen, plus it's a good bonus for a buyer if you ever sell the machine. Whether or not you should get one is up to you...I look at it as a form of insurance...nice to have when you need it. BTW, keep in mind that most dealers will haggle on the warranty price--depends though on how low they've already gone on the machine itself.

Considered the warranty when I purchased my Rancher earlier this year. After reading posts from members that did purchase the warranty and found out that their claims were not covered due to Hondas "normal wear items exclusion" clause, I decided it wasn't worth it.
Unless you are planning on doing severe duty riding, ask your dealer exactly what is covered and what isn't. Honda's are rock solid anyway.
I put my money in insuring my ATV. Covers all damage, theft, etc. Just a thought

Don't waste your money. The only thing my warranty covered was my hi/lo beam switch that quit working. It did not cover the broken u-joint and the bent output shaft on my wife's Foreman. A bent output shaft requires engine removal and crankcase splitting, but Honda would not cover it - had to do it myself. Also, the wheel bearings went out at 400 miles, which I thought was a little premature especially on a 3 month old machine. Warranty didn't cover it either- they called this normal wear and tear. Needless to say I got my money back for the extended warranty - I was still on the Factory 6 month warranty when all the above happened.
If you do decide to get the warranty, shop around the dealers do make money off the warranty. One dealer wanted $470 for 36 months, I ended up getting it for $350, but like I said I got this money back!

How come the warranty did not cover the damaged items? Did they say they were not manufacturer's defects and that you did the damage? The reason I ask is, I am considering the warranty, also. I understand them not covering damage done through abuse or misuse, but not for mechanical failure through normal use.

One of the main reasons that I bought a Yamaha was in fact that they have a Yes program. It's fully refundable if you don't use it upon the expiration of your warranty. Mine was $750.00 for four(4) years and that's transferable. For me, that wasn't a bad deal.
