Default overheating!!

I have only put three rides on since setting up the stage 4 kit, (finally getting it tuned in correctly). I usually ride in the coast range. Mud, trails, climbs, logging roads.
Now for the question,
I decided to see how it ran in the sand, so a buddy and I went to Sand Lake on the Oregon Coast. It seemed to run pretty well until I felt my leg getting wet, (no I didn't wet myself) looked down and antifreeze all over, thought I split a hose or loose fitting or o-ring seal on maxi-cool head, Nope. Filled up the radiator with water (about 24oz.) Ran it some more and noticed the temp. warning light on, looked down and still couldn't find leak. Reved it up and there it was, the pin hole on the overflow. Went back to camp and added some antifreeze. Funny thing is wide open or high rev's it wouldn't over heat very easily, even when repeatedly climbing. Putting or idleing it overheated easily. Neutral w/ high rev's high temp. light would turn off.
So the question is did 1500ft in elevation cause all the problem? or did my waterpump all of a sudden go bad?
What do you all think? Looks to be a lot of 400 scrammy owners here to help. Thanks.
