Help installing cv joint polaris 500 sportsman
#1
My son poped the front cv joint in his sportsman 500. We took it apart and looked like We could fix it with a repair kit. Ordered one , but can't figure out how to get the berring in the outer hub. Could some one explain this to me. This is the first time I have ever torn a cv apart. I thaught I could just drop the bearring race in then put in the ***** ,but I guess not. Help Please!!! Thanks

Sorry called the wrong part. I am trying to install the cv bearring in the outer joint. I bought this from bertsdirtworks. Maybe I should have got the outer joint with the berring already installed ,but Thought the outer joint looked ok. I can't even get the berring race without the ***** to go in. They assured me this is the berring for my machine. Like I said this is all new to me. Unversial joints ok ,but cv joints????
Thanks again,
Thanks again,

Sorry I'm still confused. You see there is no such thing as a cv bearing, there is a cv which has 6 or 8 ***** in it but is not considered a bearing. Then there are the wheel bearings an inner and an outer. These are tapered bearings as found on trailer wheels or the front wheels of a rear wheel drive car. If you go to the link below there is an exploded view and you will be able to determine which it is you need help with. If you wish you can send me a private message and I will return a couple of pages from my W manual.<a href="http://www.partsland.com/index.cgi?N=1048977987-22481&P=Polaris-ATC">

First, I assume you have the shaft pulled out. If not, it is held in by a spring clip.
Now, looking at the CV joint where the shaft goes in, rotate the inner race/cage kind of like if the axle on one end of the joint was at almost a 90 degree angle to the other shaft. This will allow you to get 1 or 2 ***** out. Keep rotating the inner race/cage around until all the ***** are removed, and the joint will come apart if wiggled around to just the right position. Clean it all up, and re-assemble in reverse order, greasing everything with CV grease as you go.

OK cv joint I can't even get the race in the joint so I can put the ***** in. When we tore it down the ***** just fell out and the race was gone so I didn't see how it came apart. Thanks

Play around with it for a while. When you get the race oriented EXACTLY right, it will go right in (need light taps with a soft hammer at the most). Don't worry about putting in the ***** until after you have the race in the outer joint.

Now I understand, sorry for not getting it the first time. You are rebuild the cv and trying to get the ***** in, well farmer123 hit it on the head so follow his instructions.

OK, I thought I read somewhere not to hit the race with a hammer didn't want to break it. I was in the process of sending some photos links when I got your message. Going to send them anyway so you can see my problem.Or what I thought was a problem in the mean time I'll tap this thing a little. Thanks for the advice

OK, I took a clamp and forced it in. Now I can't even get it to spin aroung to align the holes where the ***** go with the cavities in the outer joint.
