400ex park brake/starting
#2
yes, if the quad is in gear, then u still need to hold the clutch in, so ur parking break may disengage if u pull the clutch in. if the quad is in nuetral then it will start w/o a problem. but don't think that the parking break will keep the quad from going ne where, i don't trust the parking break at all.

Just curious. I(wifes) got a 2000 400ex that I am trying to sell that is a total pig to start. I adj. the valves the other day, 1 intake was off a bit and 1 exhaust was off alot. I tottally cleaned the intake the other day also and still no change. I have to wack the throttle 6-8 times, it fires for a few seconds then I have to give it another 8-10 wacks and it idles until it warms up. Is this normal for these things this old? It seems that with a new plug it fires up right away for about 4-5 times then back to the other method. Anyone have the same problem? Any help would be appreciated.

my 400ex is new and it usually needs the choke on fully, then it starts, then i drive it, and when im driving i take the choke off and slowly let the engine warm up. When i bought mine at the dealer, they told me that it will take a while to get it warmed up. Hope this helps
