I just got new plugs, and checked to see how my quad was running after i jetted to a 142 main (dynojet). I took the old plug out which was black as hell, and put in a new one (i check the size and all and i put in the same brand NGK, and same number) after about 10 minutes of riding with no holes in the airbox lid (i covered them up with duct tape), i took the new plug out, and saw that it was black too. the only part that wasn't totally black was the very tip of it. is it bad if i am running rich.... couldn't my quad blow up after awhile? Should i go to a 165 main (dynojet)? what do i have to do to prevent it from running rich, help would be greatly appreciated.

stay with the jet you have in, uncover like 4 holes on air box and go from there.

P.S. the bigger the jet the richer it runs.
so the 165 would be way to BIG!

ok, i uncovered 1/2 of the holes.. and i am still running a little on the rich side... is there supposed to be a thin layer of black powder on the plug? if i get a new silencer would I still have this problem? Correct me if i am wrong.. if i want to run less rich, then i add air... if i want to run more rich then I cover up more holes?? See i can fiddle around with it if i knew what caused richness or leanness. thanks for the help so far, i wouldn't have even been this far without it .

ok to start with man, the bigger holes "more air" you get to the engine, especially having the k&n filter, you have to go bigger jet size to even out feul/air mixture...the stock size of the ex is 148 right? well, you went the wrong way....you needed to prob go to a 150...i bet that would have been the right jet.....the 165 is way to big...however, since you have holes in your box now, it may need 152 or maybe 155 but i wouldnt go over that....hope this helped!

listen, the dynojets use different numbers.... so the 142 is a bigger jet than stock... and the 165 is a little bit bigger than the 142.. ok???
