I got one for my wife. It's GREAT! I have listed the answers to your questions below. We have the GPScape and it's awesome.
She had it up to 51mph
Smooth Running
Brakes rock (great stopping power).
Some things I added..
Engine Breaking is Great.
I think it has Best Trans in the Business...
GPS is simple to use and works great!
Great Looks.
Honda reliability...
The Wife LOVES it!!! You might end up loving it too!!!
I suggest you go out and drive one.. Good Luck!

Actually it doesn’t use maps. The way it works is you enter a waypoint and it points the way there. Very simple and nothing special but it works great! You can enter in WAYPOINTS by hitting a button while being at that waypoint or you can enter in the Longitude and Latitude manually...

Hi, If you don't mind taking the time to answer, I've got a few questions for you since I see you have both the rincon and the rancher AT. Is the engine braking that bad on the rincon, and does it have enough power for steep mountain type rides? I am also thinking about the rancher because of the possible better engine breaking, and better gearing for steep applications. Which do you like better? I'm also thinking abouy the Kawi prairie but the belt scares me and I want the supposed honda reliability. Thanks for your help.

My wife and I have one each. We both had 03 ranchers --es-- . I like the engine brakeing. You have to give it gas to make it go down steep hills. Also you have the option to use the es mode or full auto. I find my self using full auto more and more. also you can shift from 4x4 to 2x2. Unlike the 03. The 400 motor is just right for the trans--IMO. About the same top speed of the 03 350. (329.cc). We are not into full mudd bogging. Just trail riding. But he have been in some deep mud. I thought it did fine. Some people might want low range. But i feel it is just right for our type of riding. Hope this helps you choose what is suited for your wife. Kodiac 1,
I got a Rancher AT about two months ago and I love it! Great power and very good climbing ability. The brakes work very well for me but I have heard that they can get water in them if you go mudding. Not a problem for me. The top speed is about 55mph or so. I've found the handling to be great and very little vibration of any kind. I'll bet radial tires would make it even better. The seat can be just a bit hard on long rides of two to three hours. I loved the transmission...very smooth in auto. If you choose to shift it also worked very nicely. I like the modern styling of this quad also. Best of all.......it's a Honda! Quality is almost assured to be top notch.

I bought an 04 Rancher AT about three weeks ago - I've used it everyday last week. It was my first ATV ever. I find it very reliable - it did all the things I wanted it to. Plenty of power to pack my big fat butt and my traps all over the ground I needed to go. I even got to play cowboy and herd up some cows that got through a fence. I'm still getting used to it, but it has plenty of zip. I still haven't had it at top speed yet. Still want to break it in easy. I think your wife would really enjoy the Rancher AT.

When my wife was ready to buy an atv, we were set on getting the rancher. Then she rode a Bombardier Outlander. Thats all it took. Very nice machine. The rancher at tranny is far superior to the outlanders belt drive ill give it that. The suspension on the outlander is independent and far superior to the rancher. The power is about equal. Honda wins with looks. Price is pretty close. If you want to keep her comfortable, get her an independent suspension. My wife loves to go on all day rides now. The rancher is still a nice choice. If honda would put independent suspension on the rancher at, it would be the best in the 400 class hands down.
