LT80 Power Reeds and other hop ups...
#1
I have two LT80's that my two oldest boys(11 and 8) started to race this year at a locat MX style track in Northern Minnesota.
1999 - Mods include: Trekker rear tires/douglas wheels, Wheel spacers for front, DG exhaust, Uni Filter, Works Shocks, Drilled holes in air box....I think that is about it..
1987 - Mods include: Trekker rear tires/douglas wheels, and bored one size over as engine was getting weak.
I purchased Boyseen Reeds for both, but cannot get the bolts out of the reed cage assy. Anyone else have that problem, or suggest a solution? Should I pull the engine?
What other mods work well for low end take off? or just plain better performance. "LT80" Can you PM me to discuss clutch mods?
Thanks for your help!

I found that just lightening the rear shoes to 175 grams makes a nice difference in take off, and you dont lose acceleration through the primary clutch. Adjusting the weight in the primary is a pain in the BUTT. It would be easier to do if you didnt have to remove everything to do it every time. I was able to get an impact driver to 3 of the 4 reedcage bolts and remove them, but I had to get the small chisel and hammer to loosen the last one. I put 10mm head bolts back in place in case there was a next time. By the way, anyone who has an older LT will benefit also from changing the secondary spring even with a stock one. The new stock replacement was 1/2 inch longer than the old one and makes the clutch backshift work correctly now. My porting is conservative and I took .020 off the head. Also running the FMF fatty pipe. I dont remember the exact weight, but I ended up drilling the roller weights about 1/8 or slightly larger through the middle to get the primary to work great for my situation. Removing 2 rollers was a bit too much. I dont like the idea of running 5 rollers personally because of out of balance. I'm sure Mr Jack will give his expert advice
