Well boys and girls.... My DS just might get traded in for a new YFZ450.

I know I'm a trator now. LOL, but I've been looking lond and hard at the new Yamaha and I'm seriously considering it. I've been nickle and dimeing my DS ever since I got it.(always have to buy something for it). Little stuff is always breaking on it and it's more annoying than anything, not to mention the frickin cost of the parts.... AND the 3-4 week wait on anything and everything when I order something. I feel the new Yamaha is more for me and I may have a new red and white YFZ sitting in my Garage within the next 6 months. My Dad feels that I need to get something NEW or just newer than my DS and the only thing I like just as much or more than my DS is the new Yamaha. But I have to look at the big picture yet and take into consideration that I'm only 16 and I don't make much $$$ at this point. After I get my license (yes I should have them by now but I started my class a bit late) I WILL find a better job into the next bigger town and I should beable to afford a new YFZ450!!
So, I plan on trading my quad in if I get enough for it, BUT as of right now my quad is up for sale for anyone willing to offer me a reasonable price....... now let the trator bitching begin!!!

I think if you have to go, the YFZ is the most impressive bike I've seen to date. I'm too big for anything but the DS so no tough choices here.

With your height / weight the YFZ may be a very good bike for you.
Keep in mind you are going from one first production year quad to another though. Better if you can wait to next year when some of the bugs are worked out (not that they have any. . . just in case some come up that Yamaha takes care of.)

No worries there, it takes Yamaha forever to admit they have a problem and then get around to fixing it.

why would we call you a traitor? you didn't say you were trading the ds because it a pos, you just said you would like a new machine. the yamaha seems to be a nice machine. the only words of caution i would offer are if you ride as hard as you say you do, you might pound a yamaha into the ground, you may have to admit the reason little things go wrong is hard riding. seems i read many stories of close calls for you, and your ds drove you home, but did a 450 take a wreck and have to be rebuilt (all bent up) ? plus those things are a 1000 more than a new ds. but just have fun that is what it is all about.

Does that mean you are going to bug the Yamaha people now instead of us?

I have two words for you regarding your troubles; Preventitive Maintenance. It would have helped you with your DS and certainly will be a very important factor with a YZF alive. Just a little friendly advice.
