Do i have a problem/ checking oil on raptor
#1
i was just reading an article about someone checking oil and oil pooring out of oil tank..Like it was over filled.....I to have had this problem...If i check the oil as soon as i turn off the motor from a ride..the oil will spill out of the tank...Is this normal...Now if i let it sit for awhile and check it its fine...i have ran about 3 tanks gas through this motor....Have a just ruinded my new raptor?

The Manual states to let it sit for 5 to 10 min before checking oil. I have not checked my oil as soon as I turned the motor off. Maybe thats why they say that in the manual?

I would let it set only a minute...the system is much different than a car...oil level MUST be checked at operating temp...if you are currently over-filled...just change the oil and filter and add proper amount

from my experience the raptor is a pain in the a$$ when it comes to checkin oil. When i first got my raptor, i read up on threads and started many threads myself because of confusion with oil. From determining how much your actually supposed to add when doing a change (there w/o filter, with filter, and total...whats the difference between total and with filter i asked) to having the oil seem non existent on the stick. i also have went to check my oil level and when i pull out the dipstick have oil pour out as if it was way way too too high. This only happened once or twice.
I think it has something to do with the flow or the oil I think every once in a while oil gets stuck in one place more than the other. If u get this really crazy reading, put the dipstick back in start the engine and rev it up two or three times. WHen i did this, my oil went to a more feasable level. For a while i didnt check it in a while and when i did after riding no matter how i did it there was only a dot of oil on the stick. I thought i musta been burnin oil or something. So i added 1/3 of a quart and that put it in the 2/3 of the ok zone. i left it like that and drove to the track. When i took it off the trailer and let it sit, the oil level was much higher than the ok zone. It was basically the difference in oil if i added the amount i did and i was already 3/4 in the ok zone. So maybe the oil was there all along. Somehow i had enough oil to be an inch over the ok zone and im sure if i took away that 1/3 of a quart i wouldnt be empty again so who knows.
The best advice i can give you is change your oil regularly and know how much u put in. If you know you have 2-2.5 quarts in and your not burning oil, you should be fine. Dont try to get the oil perfectly at the top of the ok zone. Its like spitting in the wind. Your raptor is fine. have fun riding!

I have always checked mine cold the next day after riding whether that is right or wrong I don't know. It always lands right at the full or just slightly above so maybe you could take an ounce or two out.
I think what warrior86 said is correct in as change your oil
regularly.
Here is the amounts that hold for my 2001 Raptor.
2 qts., 12 oz. without the oil filter change.
When changing oil & filter 2qts., 16oz.

I dont know if someone stated this already but you guys might want to check your screens at the bottom of the oil tank. I did and there was some crap in it then I cleaned it and now its much easier to tell. Before it was a B!TCH
