Optimal oil temperature
#1
Ive been thinking about adding an oil cooler to my raptor. I mostly ride dunes in 100+ heat some times. But is also gets kinda cold some where around 45s-55s during the winter. I know oil has to be a certain temperature in order for it to do its job, so I dont want to OVER COOL IT and cause any damage. Some coolers advertise a 30 degree drop in oil temp, which might be too much during the winter. So what would a good oil temp. be? Anyone added an oil cooler to a raptor? Not the oil tank, but an external oil cooler. Ive seen a cooler on ebay but its WAY over priced at $55 wit BIN of $70. I can probably rig up my own for $20.

I have a separate oil cooler and have not had any problems. I moved the oil tank to the rear of the bike and put a large 4x12 oil cooler up front. I'll post a few pics some time to show you what I mean.

I would recomend it though. We are going riding this weekend and we are bringing along a temp gun. So I'm going to compare my 686 with my dad and uncle's Sparks 690's. I have quite a bit of things done with cooling in mind.

I mostly ride in baja, some gordons well and the local heber dunes. Ive gone all the way south to San Quintin, probably will go down to La Paz next year. We usually ride the baja 1000 trails around here, so its kinda fun. Would like to visit other places though.
