39 PWK or not

I have been having hell getting my quad dialed in. I have the RcR bored carb and am still having the same old problems it seems not matter what jets I use. Today it was taking off like a bat outa hell and running strong until I had it pinned for around a 1000' or so then it just starts to lose power and slow down. And if you let off for a few secs and get back on then it doesn't want to seem to go. What could this be? Too rich? Too lean? I'm sick of checking plugs every time I do a change but I know that is what it takes. My next question is if I get a 39 pwk set up for my mods elevation and temp will I have to still jack with it or will it be really close.? Just really frustrated. I got the Team Secondary thinking that my problem had to do with upshift and backshift but that seems not to be the case. I started with a main jet of 310 then went down to a 300 and now a 290 and still have the same problem. Does anyone have this similar setup? If so what jets do you run.? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Shawn.

I think you would notice a big difference if you went to the 39PWK .I have the race porting and race pipe,my jetting is 178 main 35 pilot,I would recommend getting the carb from HPD or Rick Ritter.Not all 39 PWK carbs are the same HPD has certain slides and needle's that they use.When your bike starts to lose power is when you need to do a plug check,that should tell you what's happening.Try pulling your choke the next time it does it as well.I went nut's with mine at one time and all i had to do is set the plunger on my choke and my problems disappeared.Good luck.

I was having the same exact problem with my moded trailblazer. Once it got hot it would lose the top end and just didnt want to go. The stock carb is a 30mm mikuni and i went with the 34mm carb from a scrammy and just could not get the jetting right. It would be way to rich or to lean with no inbetween. I Then just recently went with a 36mm pwk carb. It runs real strong now and no loss of top end when hot. It is still a little rich but winter is comming and I will keep it that way till spring. The keihin jets have much different sizes and are easier to tune. If you still have the stock roundslide get rid of it. It will never hold perform right with all the mods that you have. Any flatside will be better then what you have now. But the best performance carb will be a pwk carb.

You can try ebay and save a ton of money. The 36pwk for me from a bike shop war around $260 but baught a brand new one for $100. I see them there all the time and they usually do not go for more than $100. Just look under Keihin and all the carbs will pop up. And dont bid untill the last minute or so because I have been out bided many times on other carbs. I put in a max bid for me the last 45 seconds of the bid and finally one it.I then had it within 3 days of the auction.
