Dirt Drag ?'s
#1
I have a few questions about dirt drags...(Sand or pavement guys feel free to jump I just said dirt because thats what I run on)
1) How much of a difference is there in 4 Snow and Pro Wedge?
Or what other tires do people recomend?
2) When using a wheelie bar is a shorter or longer swing arm better?
3) How much more will drag pipes actually give you.
4) How much more will a Dynatec or Vortec ignition give you? (is one better than the other)
5) Which is better solid suspension or shocks? (provided its relatively a flat surface)
6) This one is a little tougher... How much nitromethane can you SAFELY mix with your gas running a 12:1 piston? What octane do you usally mix? I am running straight 110 right now. How big a difference will you notice if you run the mix? Also do you think you would see more of a gain on a mix of gas and Methane or going straight Alcahol.
I am just trying to make a few changes and trying to decide where to drop some money over the winter any oppinions will be appreciated!
Thanks,
Drag-n

4-snows are made for 9" rim, but other than that I think thier is little to no difference between the two, I think they are a great tire for Dirt drags. Run them with lower gearing.
Longer swing-arm is better, the shorter the swing-arm the more likely it will"unload" the rear tires.
Drag pipes are good, if biult right. those Craycraft boys swear by thiers.
IGN??? I dont know.
If it is a smoot flat track, I would say struts!,but if it starts getting rutted out, then you will need a little suspension.(you can alway tie the front, and rear down. You can lower and rise you front end with a strap, to find the best weight transfer spot on your suspension(this takes time, and alot of practice).
I dont believe NitroMethane with mix with Gas that well, but it works pretty damn good with ALKY!! I've tried it before, and the quad felt stronger in mid-range.

Thanks Bigger!
I know that was asking alot of info, but I'm just trying to decide on what changes to make to try to pick up a little, and I'm debating on buying an IGN over the winter.
The gas thing still kinda messes with me I hear people all the time talking about "mixing their gas and running additives" (and yes this is on 4 strokes and not 2 LOL) but I don't know what to do, and I'm kinda nervous to experament to much (could cost alot of $$$). I know when I'm at the track some of the bikes have a very distinctive exhaust smell almost sweet, but they say its not alky? Ow well guess I'm still new to it all and still trying to learn.

I f you can get alky were you live, I would say that is a must. All the biult rappy around here that run well are all on ALKY, unless they shoot Nitrous then they go back to gas(much easier to tune N2O with )
If you convert to ALKY I promise you will never go back to gas again. Alky makes you engine run cooler, and is much more forgiving when it comes to Running Rich. They only draw back is, fuel mileage, but us drag racers are not concerned with that anyways, are we. ANd after you try and stay with ALKY, youwill need to bump your compression up to atleast 14:1
thier are MANY mixes out thier for Gas, but Nitro is not one of them. I bet thier is people on here that can tell you several things to try.(if you choose gas)

Bigger,
I've thought hard about the alky and keep backing out. Is there a converstion kit you can buy for the FCR's? Also how often do you have to change the oil, is it an every time you run thing?

Yes I believe thier is a ALKy coversion kit for the FCR's, I'm not sure who sells them ,but I think its around $200 for it. Thiers been several Rappy boys on here convert thier FCR's to ALKY, I am sure they will jump in here and elighten us. Rappy's really run strong on ALKY!

Of course Bigger hit everything right.
There is a alky kit for the FCRs. I know Sparks sells them, but I have heard about some tuning problems. RCR had his FCRs on alky so I bet Craycraft would have them too.
There are PLENTY of additives for gas, if this is what you chose to run.
I would change my oil after a good solid weekend of drags, all weekend.
I think they make a Pro Wedge for 9 inch rims too.
I think (this is just my theroy since I don't have one yet) that an ign will help you more once you switch fuels or start adding additives. On gas I don't really know. If you can get the Vortex programed with the ign kill for shifting it would help on any fuel.

do not run nitro with gas it can blow up in the gas can its unstable but there is a way to mix gas and nitro but it takes another chemical i dont know what it is off the top of my head right now but in the last few races we have gone faster on gas than alky but we are still doing some test on this matter
