Default 4X4 Not working, WILL THIS WORK??????

Ok, i have a 1999 Sportsman500 that the 4X4 hasnt worked in for about 3 years. After all this i know that the hubs arent getting any power. NO one can tell me why but they arent. So i am going to run a hot from the battery to a switch and then to the hubs. If i energize the hubs wont it kick in the 4X4? I have thought about all the reasons not to do this(4X4 being kicked in all the time, and all that) thats why i am putting in the switch, only use 4X4 when i get stuck anyways. Are there any reasons this wont work? Please someone with more knowledge than me let me know if i am about to F&*( this sportsman up.

Save your pains ,bring it to the dealership, or is you have a manuel, jsut start trackign the 4wd system fro mthe hub up
could be anything, from a bad 4x4 switch tobad connections,..........decribe your problem more like from when you hit the 4wd button tolooking at the hubs

Default 4X4 Not working, WILL THIS WORK??????

I have had it to 3 dealerships. They all keep it for about a month, scratch there heads and say they have never seen anythinglike it before. Love the machine, but at my wits end and want 4X4 to work. When u engage the 4X4 it does nothing. Have had a meter on it and cant find where the break it. Only getting .5 volts to each hub. Replaced the switch, 2 sensors, and a wring harness. $500 and 3 years later, No 4X4. Was wondering if the direct 12 volts would work? Thanks.

I'm not sure about your model, but there should be circuit breakers in pouches, they have a tendancy to get wet and stop working. Do you have a service manual? if so it shouldn't be hard to trace the circuit either back to a problem in the wiring or the control module.

If the magnetic coils inside the strut housing are weak or bad, your fronts will not engage.

OK, don't laugh. My 99 Sportsman 500 with about 200mi quit working in 4x4.
If I remember correctly, the speedometer didn't register correctly either!
I took it to the dealer and they replaced the speedo($150) and that fixed the 4X4 problem!
I still don't understand why, but it worked.
Hope this is some help.

I think the control module is part of the speedo.

OK, does anyone out there have the diagnostics to go through the 4x4 and figure out whats wrong with it. I bought a repair manual but the one i got didnt have it in it. I know some do. Would greatly appreciate it.

Has the quad had the switch changed in the shifter?

If not I am a betting man the board is not recieving the power for the 4X4....

Also check to see if the switch on the tranny is getting power when in forward gear...
