i just bought a new pantera 2 up sled. it has remote start, and fuel injection. i think i got a great price on it, but need to know the ins and outs with the 600 engine and the fuel injection.
any goods or bads about this sled i need to know?
anything anyone can throw my way would be highly appreciated.
thanks!!!
p.s. did artic cat do something ausome with the new 650, or what!!! looks like mr. griz might need to move over for a v twin, heehee.

Nothing to worry about as this 600 engine has been around since 98. With the fuel injection just start it and go. Keep up with your routine maintenance and you'll have good worry free time.
One item that will require abit more attention is the power valves. Every year Cat improves them but if not checked they can carbon up and stick, then they are a bugger to get out. I recommend cleaning them every 500 to 1000 miles. You can use Cat's synthetic oil but I find it a bit expensive. I switched to Klotz, it's as good if not better and if you look around you can find it at a pretty good price.

old crow,
thanks for the reply. i am a newbie to the whole sledding thing, lol. i got a polaris 500 2 up last year, and now this one.
what are power valves? being i know almost nothing about sleds, is this best left to the dealership to keep up on? i let them care for my polaris, so should i do so with the cat?
thanks for your time.

The power valves are toward the top of the engine on the exhaust side (there are cable going to them).
The basic explanation is they are a guillotine that is closed at lower RPM's creating a short exhaust port hieght. Short exhaust ports have a higher torque output. At higher RPM's the power valve opens creating a high exhast port in turn creating higher horse power output. It's tourque that gets the sled moving and out of the corners.
It's going to depend on your mechanical ability. Its not hard to do, just note how they came apart and make sure they get put back together correctly. You could copy the proceedure from your dealers service manual if needed.

i have a 2000 ZL 600. i believe it is the same engine. i used the recommended arctic cat oil and the power valves still gummed up. then i switched to Amsoil. i have had no problems since. it is also cheaper than the arctic cat oil, and for me it is cheaper than the off brand names, because i am getting it at wholesale proce though a friend. I did have one serious problem which is that the oil injection pump blew and the engine got fried but they replaced it under warranty.
