water pump seals question?

Default water pump seals question?

got the seals on order , DO I need to take off the clutch cover to access the seals or just the pump cover? do they just slide in and out or are they presed in? I think im gona do the weep hole thing too tap it out and put the hose on.

Yes, you will take the clutch cover off. maybe this will help:

seems there is some kind of grease to put in the middle of the seals.

Yeah, they suggest molykote 111 for the seals.

do they come out fairly ez? just pry out with screwdriver? what do you recomend?

I wonder if when I changed the clutch springs during the reassambly something didnt line up, or got contamanated.

yes you need to take the cover off because there is a seal on the outside and one on the inside....

and do your tapping before you put the new seals in so you can flush the chips out well

Pay attention to the way the old ones are installed and insert the new ones the same way.

Prolly nothing you did wrong. They do wear out. Seems like once a year with mine. If the pump shaft has a grove worn into it you may want to replace the shaft as well. or you will be doing this again in about a month or so. Depending on how often you ride.

my pump seals failed around 100 hours if memory serves, and what I found was dirt and grit that was introduced up through the weephole so that's when I came up with the hose barb tapping and short piece of hose in a loop to prevent the future intro of more debris. its been over 200 hours since and still holding up well, knock on wood.

I haven't done the barb thing yet either. But I will be when I have to do the seals again. Going on 6 months so far. Yippie!!!!. LOL..now I just jinks myself.
