I just ordered the nac's parking brake off for my 400ex...people had told me it saves your bakes and looks allot better too...just wondering if anyone knows how hard it is to take that cable off, or what you have to do to take the brake off to put the plate on.......and if you have one, do you like it or what? thanks for your help!

I have a red Nac's parking brake cover and it's pretty cool. When I installed the cover I changed to a Works Connection clutch lever and perch. When the parking brake was still on I engaged it one time and the ATV almost ran over me when I turned my back so thats the reason I decided to take it out. It needs constant adjusting.

I have a Lone Star parking brake block off on my 300ex. It's no problem taking the cable off and no problem putting the parking brake block off on.

It's really easy! Just remove the two or three bolts holding the plate on the back of the caliper, and the parking brake mechanism comes right out...you then mount the block off plate in its place. You also have to remove the long bolt on the stock clutch perch to disconnect the front end of the parking brake cable, as well as remove a couple of clamps to pull the entire cable off of the machine.

When you remove the parking brake though, you're still left with the remnants of the stock clutch perch, so I would also suggest that you replace it with an aftermarket set, either one of the easy-pull types or a regular perch and lever. I had my dealer get me a Moose CR250 clutch perch and lever for about $25, and it fits and works great. To get the clutch adjustment right though, you might have to take up some slack by tightening the adjuster located on the engine.

The parking brake is simple to remove the Nac's plate bolted-on perfectly. I put Loctite on the bolts, just to be safe. I totally removed the stock perch and replaced it with a PEP EZ pull unit. With the PEP system, I had to adjust the free play down by the engine. I wish I'd known that at the time. Would have saved me lots of frustration.

A note on the PEP clutch/perch: at first I didn't think it made a difference, but that is because I hadn't ridden in about 2 weeks and before I rode that weekend, I installed the block off plate and clutch system. A few weeks ago I was at the dealer and they had a stock '00. I tested the pull and the PEP does make it easier, but it isn't my a ton. If I did it again, I'd just get a CR perch and lever, save $20.

I noticed after I installed the CR250 perch and lever, that while my pull isn't any easier, it "is" a shorter pull that the factory setup. Another advantage to the CR mod, is that it's much easier to get replacement levers should you ever break one.

I like my RTC clutch perch and lever. There is different cable pulls to get more cable or an easier pull. their brake levers are nice too, They do cost a little more than the cr parts.
