OK, this might have been asked a hundred times, but here it is one mre time. Which one would be better for me? 6', 180 lbs. Fairly experienced rider. Ride mostly in the woods and sometimes deep mud and water. Don't get me wrong, there will be some wide open spaces also. I take it both have about the same aftermarket support? How about upkeep? I hope I can figure out which one soon cause I can't wait to go riding.

For your size i would get the 400ex the 300ex is smaller. The 400ex have some more overall room for larger people. If you got a 300ex you will feel cramped up when riding. Sit on both bikes you will see what i mean

The 300 is fast compared to the 4x4 we ride. A guy I ride with has a 400. The 400 is scary fast. If you got the extra money go with the 400. Yeah it doesn't have reverse, but is that a problem?

i bought the 400 since dealers are more willing to negotiate price on them than the 300. I like the 400 a lot, but I do wish it had reverse. I do much of the same riding as you, and the 300 probably would have been enough for me, but I am a smaller rider than you. the 400 is an excellent wheelie machine

well the 400ex may be an excellent wheelie machine, but ask anyone- for wheelies nothing beats the 300ex. But I chose the 300ex. First off for money. Second off, design (in 1998) was incredibly cool. 3rd off, i do the same riding you do, and needed reverse. So is reverse needed? for me yes. cuz i like to do some crazy (translation:STUPID) stuff.

I would get the #00ex Because with the riding you do you need reverse. Thats why I got the 300 ex For the REVERSE!

Get the Suzuki Z400. Size wise it is pretty much the same as the Honda, but it has reverse and I heared it handles better.

They have 398cc, DOHC, 4 valve engines. Disc brakes front and back. If I was looking for a race machine, this is what I would get. Some of the engineering reminded me of my old QuadRacer.

For now I'd say a 400EX. The 300EX is probbly better in the mud,and would still fit you. If you want alot of speed get the 400EX it goes about 66mph while the 300EX goes 60tops. If you need the reverse get the 300EX. Whats your price range also. I love my 300EX but i want alot of speed now do to the no fear attitude ive been goin through. Well hope this helped and good luck man see ya.
