Default sad day in HERBDON's house

well gentlemen, after one year of trail riding, a huge transformation into one of the sickest mx raptors, a full year of racing,, and half a summer of practice tracks.....my raptor finally gave up....

yesterday, while on a quick 15 minute trail ride around my neighboring woods, i made a sloppy shift into third.....a few "clunks" later as i completed the shift into third,,,,,,,,,,here is the sad part......third gear was no more......i have all the other gears including reverse, but third gear is missing.....it was replaced by a second and unconvenient nuetral.......the motor didnt lock up....i rode my raptor home in fourth gear......i dont have any loose metal floating around my lower end sounds, but i am not going to take any more chances...........i really am not to upset by this.....i knew it would eventually happen.............just for information purposes for all who will appreciated what i am getting myself into...............second and third gears in my transmission are/were SAM COE gears........i am going to try to see if SAM COE will give me some new gears...............but you all know how that works............

ok...here is what i am looking for......information regarding SAM COE gears.....somewhere i read / heard that SAM COE had problems with the early manufacturering of these gears.........i got my gear put in my transmission, early last year.....say March of 2002, just when sam coe started to sale these gears to the public....sam coe didnt even have the shift forks yet......can anyone tells me what the status is of these gears and /or any information about the new ones, if there is such a thing.........

so here it is in a nut shell................i have several decisions to make............how should i fix it............new samcoe gears and retain the 2001 transmission gearing, which i like alot...........or .......go for the complete 2001 to 2002 transmission update and screw sam coe........oh.....another thing........i have to replace the case too............at some point during this summer, i hit a rock landing a big jump, without my belly skid plate on and snap off the middle section one of the case mounts for a bolt the holds the two case together.....so not only do i have to fix my transmission...i have to replace the cases as well..............boy o boy.....this just gets better.....................

hehe.....overall i have been very happy with my raptor..........it's really fast and handles great...........so now i am in mouring until i fix my raptor....which is not going to be anytime soon............i have a make the money up before i can buy parts................

so that is my story for the weekend...........please feel free to give me sympathy..........for those who have transmission issues, you all know my sadness...............hehehehehee..............

herbdon down and out...............

I went with the full 02 conversion (OEM) and had the gears cryo'ed.

It "Aint broke yet" so I'm guessing it's fixed.....

I did the same as Fisher1648, and everything as been great since. Give Craycraft a call on a transmission kit and get them cryo-treated. Belive me when I say it will be the best investment you could make for your Raptor.

I think I heard sam coe stopped production of the gears and kinda walked away from them cause they didnt hold up.
