I just traded my 99 Sport, for a the comfort and deep woods security of a Magnum 500. Does any body have any experience with finding a made to fit aftermarket exhaust, carb. I'm looking for more throttle response. I sampled some different clutch springs, but its not making up for the vacuum slide carb. I've been searching for a diferent cam also with no luck. My dealer tells me the Scrambler cam would require too many other parts to be feasible. Please let me know.

 

Your dealer info is incorrect. You can easily replace the Sp500 cam with a cam from the Scram 500HO. As well as the carb with a 40mm. I've done it on my SP500 along with the Wiseco 10.5:1 piston, roller clutch, Supertrapp IDS2, etc., etc.

Jack has probably got the best idea for the Fugi 500's... I went to a local dealership and got ahold of a 500 cylinder... To try and set-up some sort of a big cc gain.. would be EXPENSIVE!!... The liner isn't removable by conventional means (press).. Its intergral... to remove it to install a larger liner (for a bigger piston) would require the existing liner to be cut out.. Even after that... the largest piston/liner that could be put in there would be about 35 cc gain.. Not much considering the $$$$ spent. So a higher compression stock size piston and H.O. camshaft is basically the only alternative...
Jack, how did the 40mm Scrambler carburetor turn out on your Sportsman?.. Any overcarburetion symptoms? Installation problems? Did you install the carburetor before or after the piston change? Were/are the valve springs different for the H.O. Camshaft? I am interested in doing similar mods to my Magnum... Any info would be appreciated... Finding good combos for the Fugi 500 is tougher than I thought..
