Sport 400l vs. Scram 500 aftermath...
#1
a stock 00' scrambler 500 will beat a 400cc sport 400l (98') because we own both, it does not win by much, but it does win. Anyway, we are getting a HPD: clutch kit, Pipe, and silencer for the sport400l. now do you think that the sport with those things will beat the scram 500 in a drag race? I think it will, but my brother doesnt. OPINIONS please, thanks

I just traded my scram 99 500 for a scram 2000 400 2x4. The 400 is modified with a pipe and clutch kit from hpd. I think my new quad is much faster than my 500. Don't get my wrong, I still love the 500, I think it is a great machine. But a modified 400 is faster and has alot more zip.

300exSTER,
The difference between the two might just be the rear sprockets. The 00 500 Scrambler has a 36 tooth rear, while the 98 400 Sport has a 34 tooth rear. The 34 tooth will give you more top end but the 36 tooth rear will be quicker on take off.

If you mod the 400 the way that you say, the 400 will SPANK the 500. Just take the time to tune the combination, the extra effort is well worth it.
I'm Guess-timating the HP of the combo on mine at about 50 HP. It takes a lot more work to get that kind of HP out of a four stroke.
