Default 700sp exhaust leak sound

I just bought a '04 700 sp and have had it out 3 or 4 times. i've noticed that when it gets warmed up i hear a kind of wheezing/sputtering sound coming out of the front of the engine around the exhaust when rpms are just above idel, and with engine breaking down hill. It has done it everytime that I've ridden it. I have owned several bikes mostly hondas and yamahas, but this is my first Polaris. Still trying to get used to the machine and its characteristics. Just wondering if this is normal (like the clunking in tranny area from engine breaking system) or if somthing is wrong. I will say that this is one bad ace machine, just concerned about the noise. Thanks for any imput on this.

About the only odd noise I hear on my 700 is the drive line noises. Does it squeek when turning or while it is just sitting there running. Hopefully someone may give more insight into this.

I'm pretty sure it's coming from the spring and rubber mount on the exhaust pipe between where it comes out of the head and the front exhaust shield. Mine does it, a friend's 600 does it, and a buddie's 02 700 does it. He put a metal hose clamp around that rubber mount and tightened it down and the noise went away. It is very annoying. It is just above idle and many people have mentioned it on the boards.

Thanks guys. I'll try the hose clamp trick. Thanks a ton!

You may be able to adjust the noise out of it or replace the spring. The hoseclamp idea was only a temporary fix (and tacky looking one) as the clamp came apart from the vibration.

What is it with Polaris and all of the annoying sounds that comes with it? Between the squeeking and clunking it sounds like its going to fall apart going down the trail. This is my first Polaris and I hope it serves me as well as my past hondas did. I had a yamaha kodiak, it was a POS from day one and I guess i'm gun shy from that experiance. The sportsman looks bad a$$ and on paper it looks like you get the most for your money. I guess time will tell. Seeing that there are a lot of happy and loyal polaris owners on the various forums helps. I'm going riding this weekend, break-in peroid is almost over, time to give 'er hell and see what this bike is made of!

I have a new 600sp and I know the wheeze/air leak sound you are talking about, I heard it when I idled the bike up a little. That really didn't bother me much. However the rattle/knock from the top end of the engine does(apparently normal according to the Polaris guys) anyone else have this noise in their twins apparently that is "their sound". I'm just coming off a Honda, and it ain't the kind of sound that instills confidence. Feedback would be appreciated.
