Let me be the first to say I love my Scrambler 500 ..........but the poorley designed clutch cover has to go I have had no problems with it but I think there could be some that might arise some day I just think the engineering department could have done a better job on it I have been thinking of going to the casting place where I live and get one designed (casted out of Aluminum) has any one done this would people be willing to buy one if done properly I would but if someone has done this already let me know if it works better I will buy one.
I just think ther could be a market for such a product so somebody must have already done it.
But I still love my Scrambler just thought this designing could have been done better than made out of plastic

Thanx input here would be appreciated

Have a good one

If you made a cover out of aluminum it would get so hot it would burn your leg. You may try and see if the new cover off 2001 bikes will fit. I think it is made out of composite material.

SSJB1,

1. You say the cover could have been designed better. Maybe, but if the current design is working and providing no problems, why mess with it? There has been much discussion about the cover but there are very few problems with it. The only problems are related to people not putting it on properly. Installed correctly it works well.

2. The new cover is actually appearing on the most recently released 2000 models. I think there would be some mods to do to get it to fit.

3. The cost of casting would be prohibitive unless you have great volumes of buyers for the covers. The payback would be long, if it ever happened.

4. An aluminum cover would be significantly heavier than the plastic one. More weight is not something Polaris owners have been asking for, to say the least.

If its work'in fine, don't mess with it!

Your points are valid but I still think it could have been better.I have no problem with it leaking water in fact it is more water tight than a frogs butt but the issue I have is it is weak in design when it gets hot it gets soft and if you accidently step on it you know the results.
but it is not an issue to me like I said right now But the fact still remains of what could arise but I knew I this when I bought it but all of the features that I like on it out wieghed the only problem that I could find with it (the clutch cover) but I suppose I should just be happy but ............I think it could have been better but this is my thought.

Anyways thanx for your time and responce like I say your points were valid ones. I check to see if the new ones will fit I have not seen one yet but will check them out.

Have a good one

If you have not seen the new covers they seem to be built more sturdy, a few things to remember if it leaks get you some water proof grease or some silicone put a bead on it before you put it back on and add some extra clips which are only about $.50 a piece and always after running your Polaris especially when you run it hard let it idle with the motor running for about a minute or two this will let the cover cool down a lot...I with you think the design on this could have been better but not without adding more weight which is definetly not needed...

SSJB1,

Understood, it may not have been the best design, but things always improve. Otherwise we would all be driving model Ts around.

Polaris seems to have recognized the concerns and responded with the new cover for mid production 2000.
