Best way to get new grips on handle bars?
#1
Well, I have new handlebars and new grips, but there very hard to get on, the guy told me to use super glue, but im afraid it will be too hard to slip em on and it will glue them half way on? Anyone have tips, its a real tight fit.

get the old ones off... then all you do is get some dishwashing liquid soap and water. Take the soap.. add a little water and drop the new grips into the mixture.... while it is wet... push them onto the handle bars. It will be very slippery at first.. but when it dries it is going to stick like glue.
Easy as that

mine were a tough fit too. i used soapy water to get mine on. I waited until it dried and then there were on good and tight. I didn't like the way that the stock grips left your hands black after each ride.

Another good trick is to take an aircompresor, put the grip on as far as you can (easily) and then put the tip of the air hose between the bars and the grip... hit the air and shove in at the same time. Should slide right on.

The air compressor is a good idea...I will have too try that. Another way is too use brake cleaner or starter fluid....I personally have had no luck with detergent....they never seem too tighten up.

Why would you use a lubricant like WD-40 or Dishsoap? Those chemicals are made to be slippery, just doesn't make sense. I just put grips on with 3M weatherstrip adhesive, you can find it at NAPA. This stuff is made to stick rubber to metal for long time. It worked awesome and they were dry in only a few hours. I'm sure it took a long time to dry with soap or WD-40. The other advantge to using this stuff is it seals up the end so no water will get in your grip and work loose again. I used hairspray a few weeks ago and after I went thru a few deep puddles my grips started to work loose.
