ATTENTION!!!! – NO FINGERS – NEED HELP – NEED IDEAS – 400EX
Need Help – I have a friend that experienced an unfortunate accident that injured his left hand at his place of employment. Because of this accident he is unable to use his clutch on his quad (Honda 400ex). I am hoping for some input or recommendations to help him get back on his quad to do what he enjoys the most and that MX Racing and Trail riding.
He is an experienced MX Racer, and is open for suggestions so he can use his clutch and front brakes. Most importantly, he is looking for ideas on how to hold onto the quad with his left hand (only thumb and pointer finger functional). Any one with suggestions on a velcro strap etc. would be appreciated as well.
Currently at this time he has these ideas listed below:
1) Moving clutch on right side of handlebars to replace the front brakes.
2) Sending front brake lines to the rear master cylinder using the brake pedal to activate the front and back.
3) Need ideas on larger master cylinder to accommodate front and back brakes?
4) Need ideas on strap for left hand?
I appreciate you reading this post and looking forward to reading your ideas to help my friend get back on his quad.
Thanks
Tim

There is an autoclutch available for the 400. I can't remember the name of the company, but they advertise in the magazines frequently. One of the magazines reviewed it for the Z400 recently, as I recall. This would make a clutch lever on the left side unnecessary. The right side of the bars could be left as is. As I recall, the autoclutch is rather expensive however.

Check out this thread. Look at the pic of the Handle Bars maybe you can do something like that to the quad, as for the relocation of the lever I have no clue how to do that nor any ideas.

i ahev a friend that lost three of his fingers on his left hand and could not work a clutch lever. he rigged up an electric silinoid to pull the clutch. he has a button mounted on his handle bar that he just pushes. it works great but i don't know how it would work for racing. i will try to draw it up or even better take a picture of it if he is back in town.
