LT80 belt noises ? (like large marble in the case)
#1
My daughter's 2001 LT80 started to make a loud noise from the clutch case.
Sounds like a large marble rattling around inside the case AT IDLE ONLY.
I opened the case and found nothing wrong except a few wear marks
that look like the belt hitting the case. I started it and ran it with the side
case off - no noises ! (I put in pre-mix gas because the auto oiler was removed
with the case off).
I remounted the side and the thing smokes alot till it gets very warm - another problem.
The noise at idle is getting louder and louder. The bike still runs fine and makes no
noise once off idle. Could the belt have stretched enough to be hitting the case ?
The noise is a very random loud rattle.
Thanx, Rob

First thing to check now would be the front clutch rollers.
I'll go look at the smoke post now

My son's LT80 would really smoke while warming up,worried me,too, I was told this is not uncommon, some 2 strokes tend to pool some unburnt oil in the crankcase, and then suck it up and burn it when first started, making a lot of smoke at first. Once my son's was warmed up, it barely smoked at all, and ran fine for years like that.
