Default Tires for 03 Honda Rubicon

Hello everyone I'm brand new but have been reading discussions about atv's and think you all could help me. I'm looking for some aftermarket tires to replace stock ones on 03 rubicon. I really like itp mudlites and was thinking of going with 26" 10x12 front and 26" 12x12 back. At first I was thinking larger tires like 27" or 28" but I heard that it robs alot of power. I mostly ride my rubi for play and love going through mud but stock tires are not doing it for me. Had someone suggest maxxis rubicons. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm trying to decide between the mudlites and the 589's. The only thing I know right now is that I'm going to buy 26's. (Bigger but not too big.)

I have 26x10 and 26x12 gators on my rubicon and find traction, ride and handling very good in all conditions from mud to hardpack to snow.

I have just put on new tires on my "01 Rubicon. I went with the ITP 589s and C-Series wheels 26/9x12 front and 26/12x12 rear. I just put them on yesterday so I can't tell you much about how they perform, but they sure do look good. I wouldn't recommend going any bigger unless you get the fender relocater or a lift kit from Highlifter, because they do fill up the space under the fenders.

We put 25" Goodyear Mud Runners on our Rubicon, the same size we took off. They are wider and stick out past the rims and seem to do a pretty good job protecting them. They look great. Didn't think the 1/2" increase in ground clearance was worth going 1" taller tire. We ride in everything from dirt to snow. They now have 3000 miles on them and will go another 1000 before we replace them. Pretty good chance when we replace them we will get another set just like them.

I just put the ITP 589s on but haven't rode it yet, I'm still installing some more goodies pipe, jet kit, K&N and the Warn 424. When I get some time in riding I will share the results. The ITP 589s in 26" are an 1 1/4" taller then the stock tires. I got new wheels too the ITP C-Series, but in weight the new wheels and tires weigh in at 162 pounds. The stock tires and wheels weigh in at 92 pounds. So the 589s are alot more tire. The tires do stick out past the fenders some so yes the mud will be flying a bit more.

I'm running the 27" GBC Dirt Devil XT's. Awesome, awesome all around tire. Good in climbing, rocks, mud, trails, and high speed in the fields- you name it and they rock. I had the 27" 589's on there, but they were a rough ride and didn't handle near as good as the Dirt Devils. I do have the High Lifter High Performance kit installed, so that makes up for any power lose. She pulls hard and has plenty of power. Remember, that tranny uses a lot of power, so a hi-pro kit is a good idea anyway. www.highlifter.com You get a slip-on Supertrapp pipe (not loud at all) a K&N air filter, a water resistant pre-filter and a carb jet kit. I installed it all myself following the instructions. It's a blast now.

I have ITP 589MS tires on my Foreman. Great traction and six plies. I don't notice the ride being rough at all. I run 3.5 psi in the tires.
