Hello from Portugal!

I bought my Magnum in January, and I have some questions that you might be able to answer, specially people with the same model and/or engine.

The engine doesn't start easily, more exactly, it doesn't idle if it's cold - regardless of the choke. I have to press the gas for about 30 seconds (sometimes more) on and off so it warms up enough to idle by itself. This happens in every ambient temperature the quad has been thru - 50s to 80s. The dealer told me this is normal (?), because the engine is air cooled, the mixture has to be richer than normal, so the engine runs cooler. Is this true?

I'm using regular quality auto grease, not Polaris', on the greasing zerks. Does this damage any of the non-metal parts?

Thanks! I'll post how to install a reverse light for less than $6 (with pictures).

Thanks!

Pedro,
I have the same bike in the 4x4 model and experience similar problems when it is cold, but when it is warm out my bike start easily; usually I don't even have to give it gas to start it.
My 16 year old boy rolled it into a ditch a few weeks ago and the bike sat upside down for about 10 minutes and after righting it back on its 4 wheels it took a few seconds but it started right up with no problems...well, except a bent steering post and a broken front rack; nothing a few hundred dollars wouldn't fix.
My bike idles just fine, too, even at 9500ft.
I don't use Polaris grease, either, for what it's worth.

Thanks for your answer!

So it must be normal... mine starts fine when the engine is hot, exactly the same as yours.

I've only put the quad on it's side once - going downhill in reverse, but in sand. The left rearview mirror got buried, I never found it.
No more damage.

Another thing, just for comparison, how much does a gallon of Polaris 4 cycle synthetic oil cost over there? I bought a gallon yesterday, and it cost me around $25 - a bit expensive! And the front brake pads cost me $50! Perhaps it's cheaper to order direct from the US (and pay import tax and sales tax...).

Thanks again!

We were having trouble starting our 325 Mag as well, Then we looked in the manual and it basically said to stay off the gas when starting.
So now we just barely touch the throttle when starting, and it's starting just fine.
Idle screw is at the bottom of the carb. I had trouble getting my new Sportsman to idle, and the idle screw didn't help much. By adjusting the throttle linkage up on the handlebar to tighten the throttle cable just a little bit, the
idle screw on the bottom of the carb was able to do its job. I'm not sure why, but maybe there needs to be just a little tension on the throttle cable for the idle adjustment to work properly.
LOL
