Any one out there who has the 500 sportsman experience any trouble with them overheating?
I have checked radiator fluid levels as well as thermostat and fan all seem to to be in working order. After about 5 to 10 minutes of riding my fan comes on then a couple minutes later my temp light. HELP!!

Check your radiator, make sure that you don't have mud built up in behind the protective screen inbetween the coils of the radiator itself.
Hope this helps

If your fluid level is good and your fan is working then make sure your radiator is totally clean. but be careful if you use a pressure washer, it will bend the cooling fins if you hit them straight on , depending on the strenth of your pressure washer. every couple of rides i completey remove my front radiator guard and screen, soak the radiator with a mild solvent,i.e.
409 or some other household degreaser then rinse straight through it with just your garden hose. you won't believe the stuff that will come out of there. this method works well on south Louisiana mud,it should work on almost anything.

I have not had any overheating trouble, I have 500 miles on mine and I usually ride double. but it just started getting into the 80's up here a couple days ago.

Just got my 500 back from dealer today. They replaced the sensing unit that turns the fan on.
He said it was not allowing fan to come on in time. Keep this in mind if you all ever have overheating problems.

I've heard of a rash of these lately from lots of guys. Seems it could be a couple of things. Bad thermostat or bad heat sensor. Apparently the supplier of these sent in some bad product to the factory.

I just went throught the same problem with my xpediton. First, some of my wires were tore up. They replaced some bad wires. Probably from my driving through the woods with no trail or logging
road a few times. Thats why I want better pertection underneath near the bottom of our radiators. Then my fan would not come on. It had a bad sensor. The sensor was replaced. My overheat light would still come on after about driving 17 miles. It turned out that my rad was very dirty. I was always washing it with a hose and it just was not getting clean enough. You could look at it on the machine and it would look clean but was not clean. Its all clean now and no more over heat and fan still working. Still no extra front end protection and I have no plans to stop crashing through the woods. rangerchet
