Does anyone know what temperature the electric fan cycles on and off at on the 650? I am considering adding a small indicator light so I can tell when its on and how long it runs. It's probably a good practice to make sure its cycled off before shutting the engine down anyway. That fan sure looks small in comparison to the surface area of the radiator.

the fan switch opens at 221 closes at 205. the thermostat opens 185 closes 167. i built an aluminun shroud. and put a gauge in. runs around 180 to 210 most of the time.

Thanks for the temps. Did you use a mechanical or electric gauge and where did you mount it?

bdonohue, where did you tap into the coolant system to install the sensor? Will off the shelf motorcycle sensors have the correct size and thread? Did you replace the over temp switch with a readable sensor?

My fan seems to run more than I would like it too. In other words, it seems like the DS runs too hot. I was thinking about lowering the temperature that the thermostat opens or install an override switch to run the fan continuously.

Scooby- Try adding redline water-wetter in your coolant. I run it in all my liquid-cooled toys.

Has anyone thought of adding a second fan below the stock fan to help keep the DS cool? http://www.atvconnection.com/editor/.../chassis4b.JPG http://www.atvconnection.com/editor/.../leftsideb.JPG
