I added a uni-filter to my Scrambler to give it more performance. The thing is that I ride in a lot of dust and do not feel like cleaning the filter in kerosene and putting that pink sticky liquid back on all the time...

Is it really worth it over a stock air filter?

All I had to do is get the air compressor out and blow the old stock one clean.

Is the gain in power that substantual?

Uni-Filters are well worth the money. The stockers are junk. I bought 3 uni-filters, keep one in my bike, of course, and always have two ready to go, so I'm not caught without an oiled one.

 

One more thing, I clean mine in mineral spirits, let it dry, then put it in a large ziplock baggie. Spray liberally with foam oil, and mush it around with my hands to spread the oil. Take it out, let it dry, then put it in a separate bag till needed.

K&N also makes a filter for your bike. One main advantage of these aftermarket filters over the stock paper element(other than better performance) is that the stock one is no good if it gets wet. This means alot to me as I ride in alot of mud and water. My K&N on my sportsman got bad wet one time due to me accidentally running off in a hole over the handle bars. The air box was filled with water. Anyway, the bike cranked with no problem after draining water from various places. If I would have had my stock air filter in the bike, I wouldn't have been able to drive the atv back due to it getting completely soaked. Once soaked, it doesn't let air through. The only way to do it then is either take the air filter out until you get back(not recommended), or else leave the bike on the trail and bring back a new filter(not desirable either).

 

i just bought a k&n air fliter for my sport a few weeks ago and i notice a big difference in power especially the throttle respone. i was gonna wheelie it the first time i rode it with the k&n and the front end came up so fast i about fell off
