Anyone know how paint works on plastic (body)?

I have seen some new primer made specifically for plastic. I think it said you could use any kind of spray paint after the plastic is primered. Rustoleum makes it. I saw it at Lowe's.

Paint and plastic USUALLY do not work well together because plastic is more flexible than paint and, as a general rule, paint and plastic just does not bond well together period. The only exception (that I know of) is good automotive paint, and that can be pretty expensive.
What usually happens after you paint plastic, especially on something like an ATV, the paint will look good and hold up for a little while. But, if the plastic ever gets bent or if the machine is left in the warm sunshine, the paint will begin to crack, peel and turn loose.
I have seen some new spray paints at Walmart made specifically for plastic, but whether it works well or not, that is the question. Couldn't hurt to try, though!
With all that said, I do remember as a youngster repainting some of the plastic on my 1985 Suzuki dirtbike to match the newer 1986 or 1987 model. I just used regular old spray paint and it actually did very well. I'm sure paint is alot better now than then.
My advice is unless you are using a good quality automotive style paint, limit your painting area to small patches, not whole fenders and such.
Good luck!

Krylon makes a new plastic spray paint that's supposed to bond molecularly to the plastic. At least that's what the can says. I haven't seen anyone use it yet, but it also says it won't crack when the plastic bends. I've seen it at the local Sherwin-Williams paint store. Give it a try and let us know how good it is.
