Tube Front Bumpers.....
#1
Anybody have one of the Tube Front Bumpers (Polaris brand) on their machine?.. The front end of mine has been beat all to crap pushing trees, trailers, trucks, Yamahas...etc... And I am thinking of the twin tube Polaris bumper... How strong is it? How much abuse will it take? The one I saw had a plate for a roller fairlead inbetween the tubes... what winch mounts in there with the least mods?..
Thanks.....
Thanks.....

Mudmachine,
I have become very familiar with the twin tube bumpers. As far as abuse I try not to push anything that is heavier than the quad. I would try to stay away from pushing on the sides of the bumper. Just try to keep it center. If you get the twin tube bumpers their used to be two kinds one for a winch and one for no winch. The one that is suppose to be for winch has no mounting plate for winch. The plate is sold seperatly(part number 20-3090 made by Cycle Country accessories) It is suppose to fit the warn and superwinch atv models. I mounted my winch with the orignal mount and bumpers and did not quite match up. The cable will constantly be in contact with the fairlead. The above plate worked flawlessly. It cost me about $90. If I rembember I think it came with a roller Fairlead too. One person on the forum redrilled the original mount so it would line up with the fairlead on the bumper. You will also have to cutoff or grind the front of the orignal mount. I would strongley reccomend the mounting plate. The winch will be mounted upside down so it is easier to get to the clutch engagement switch. You will have to rewind the cable on the winch so the cable is pulling between the spool and mounting plate..

Mudmachine, I made my own mount for a Warn winch using the tube bumper. I mounted the roller fairlead to the front side, mounted the hawse fairlead and the plate that came with the winch on the back side. Then I made a cross piece that bolts to the plate that came with winch and welded the cross piece to the side plates on the bumper. This also mounts the winch higher up than the "bought" mount. I had to cut the bottom lip off and make a large notch in the plastic bumper. The notch was for the drum and motor of the winch. Look in my pics under"pics from around home", There's a decent shot of the front of mine that the wife took. About durability, I've run over trees, pushed others, run into stumps and clipped trees while turning on tight trails and the only thing that has happened is I keep knocking out the plastic plugs on the ends. I've lost 4 of them. My dealer stocks replacement ones for me.

When I bought my xped. I bought the twin tube front bumper and a 2000 lb. warn. winch. The dealer said they would trow in mounting the front bumper for me. When I picked up my atv they had also at no extra charge mounted my winch as they said and is obvious the winch goes on first. They said it was not easy to set it all up. the winch is right behind the front bumper. The cable roller is between the twin bars. It is not real easy to reach the chain release. It does work though. I have pushed some pretty heavy semi downed trees. Dont smack them. Just bumper them and push and the bumper can take alot.... rangerchet
