2001 BREEZE COLD WEATHER STARTING PROBLEMS
#1
I'm having difficulty getting my son's 2001 Breeze to start now that the cold weather is starting to come in to Maryland. (We call anything below 45 degrees cold.) When first starting the bike after sitting overnight the engine will start, run for a couple of seconds, and stall. This happens repeatedly with the engine running a little longer each time, then stalling. After that "warm up", the engine then runs without stalling, but takes quite a while to warm up for real before riding. Engaging or disengaging the choke doesn't seem to make a difference. I've drained the carbeurator bowl with the drain screw to make sure that there's no water in the carb, and I've also made sure that the gas in the tank is good. I've also changed the spark plug (fired right up after that but then stalled after about seven seconds and now won't start at all!). Any ideas? Thanks for the input.

This is funny!!! I went thru the same thing last year with my 01 breeze. I finally narrowed it down to the valves. they were way too tight and adjusted them and man that bike has NEVER started as good as it does now. It turns right over and starts the first revoluion it seems like.
Check your valves and adjust as neccessary.

Thanks for the info. Can you advise the specs for the valve adjust? I bought the bike used, and don't have an owner's manual. I'm in the process of ordering a shop manual. Also, how difficult was the valve adjustment? Do you have any special advice on any of the bike's quirks? Thanks again!!

The only thing I didnt like was pulling the plastic off the front end. I didnt like that at all. I dont have the specs with me cuz they are on the bike itself. I have them packed in my trailer for this week. Other than that the bike has been bullet proof.

Thanks again. The bike's not with me now, so I can't check for the valve clearance specs. Did you find yours printed by the factory on the bike itself? I've heard they may be under the seat.

By the way you CAN get to them without taking the plastic off.I use an old dirt bike axlenut wrench to get to them. But it is easier to pull the gas tank.
