What engine oil is everyone running? I have tried Kawasaki 20W50 and it has held up pretty good although it might rob some HP. I just tried Castrol GTX 20W50 and it seemed thinner than the Kawasaki oil. Also, the DS was running hotter and I smelled something burning up, not sure if it was the clutch or what. The jetting was lean so that could have been the only problem, not sure. I will probably go back to the Kawasaki oil. Every time I change the oil I still see a significant amount of metal flakes accumulated on the magnetic oil drain plug. Is anyone else still seeing these flakes after the first oil change or two?

I'll ONLY use Standard Valvoline 10w30. I like the looks of it and always had good luck with it in my other bikes. Keep in mind though, it doesn't get too hot up here in Michigan, unlike Texas. So, I'd continue using 20w50 if I were you.

In my opinion buying ATV brand name oil is a waste.

I read something in Consumer Reports once about motor oil and it's "zinc" content. Having more zinc was better (engine wear wise). And Valvoline had a higher amount that any other NON synthetic brand. Food for thought.

I haven't seen any metal flakes in any of my bikes yet.

Usually, vegetable or cornseed oil works the best

Is that what your Yamaha or Polaris book said?? I couldn't imagine it would have the proper viscosity? Bet it's cheap though...and easy to recycle...the oil that is...

I heard that mineral oil and cod liver oil promoted long engine life and improved ring sealing. However, for really hot weather, Crisco brand shortening is supposed to maintain its viscosity at higher temperatures. You may have to add an extra battery for the increased drag on the starter motor though.

If you use the Bombardier Oil for the DS650, you wont have to worry about it and you will not have a lube problem .

You can use any brand and quality you like, you will not find anything better than Bombardier Spec'd Lube.

Never seen a better outfit for lube specs and quality for all their products from the SeaDoo thru the Lear Jet,

Bombardier doesn't sell 4-stroke oil for the DS650.

I was told that Castrol GTX 20W-50 was the better oil to run in my climate in Missouri until it gets cold out.

I think the Castrol GTX 20W50 is working a little better than the Kawasaki oil. I am seeing less metal flakes now in the oil.
