Default tick after valve adjust?

I was having some starting problems so I checked my valves. All the rear valves where tight (set them at .004 int/.008exh) and up front int where tight. After the valve job though I had a tick in the front cylinder and it rode like it was on one cylinder. I followed the shop manual to a T. What happen?? Oh by the way I tried it 5 more times for about six hours with no change? I read some of the archives and someone said something about two turns of the flywheel too make sure you are on the powerstroke or TDC? If So how do you make sure watch the valve movements? Because I tried this but things may have been wayout of adjustment by then. lol

thanks
Chuck

Default tick after valve adjust?

The first time I did mine I followed the instructions and ended up with your problem, although I didn't actually drive it. I then used the old tried and true method of pulling the plug and making sure I was at the top of the compression stroke, set the valves again and way I went!
