I was wondering what free mods I should do to my new 03 Z 400, I may pipe and jet it next year but I was wondering if there is anything I can do now, if there is can you tell me how thanks a lot.

 

You can gut the stock pipe. You can ditch the lid on the box & re-jet. You can trim a few coils off the carb vacuum spring.

Iseen a few air box lids with about six 1 inch holes drilled in them and then pluged with some kind of screen. The guys who had it done got the kit from teh dealer what do you think about that? would I need to re jet? if I remove the snorkel do i need to put a filter in it's place? thanks

 

I wouldn't worry about modifying your airbox without an aftermarket pipe. The air will have a way in, but no way out (gutting your pipe may or may not help). Rejetting may help, but without a pipe your mods are limited. A new pipe is probably the most significant mod you can do. After you pipe it, skies the limit for other modifications.

 

The one free mod most people miss is to remove the screen that is in the intake tube. Make sure not to drop little pieces of wire when you pull it out. It freys a little as it comes out. Best ide is to remove the tube to get the screen out. Its good for about 1hp.
