Raptor Shocks - Which are the best for the whoops?
#1
I have seen them on several bikes and really liked the Elka's. What is long travel mean and can I use them on stock A-arms? I have know idea or knowledge on these but noticed the difference on a few bikes this last weekend and all I can say is wow!!!

Long travel uses a longer shock, 19" on the Raptor instead of the stock 16" shock. Yes, you need long travel a-arms. The advantage of long travel suspension is the amount of travel you get. I have Houser long travel a-arms and Elka Elite shocks, night and day difference over stock. Don't forget the back end if you upgrade, a +2" swingarm made a HUGE difference in the way my Raptor handles and you'll want a rear shock that self-sags (zero preload) to get the ride height down.

Will the 19" shock work on my stock swingarm? Also, I have the JTM extension, does that matter?
So it wont do no good if I get the long travel shocks for the front if I dont have the aftermarket swingarms right?

Only long travel fronts are 19", replacement rear shocks are the same length as stock. A new front suspension will make a WORLD of difference, especially if you buy the kind of set up you are thinking about. My comment on the rear swingarm was just to let you know that you can/should also improve the rear suspension so plan accordingly. I don't know a thing about the JTM extension but if you do get a new rear shock, it's got to be valved for an extended swingarm. I had my stock rear shock rebuilt with Elka SSD components and it was a little too stiff with the stock swingarm, the +2" swingarm really made a difference in the way my machine handled.
