Does the raptor need 2 carbs?

The Yamaha 660Raptor is a wonderful machine, alright. A world class play bike, and I'd have one if it weren't for those 2 carburetors. C'mon- it's a single cylinder engine, and to further the confusion- there are 3 intake valves so one carb is feeding 2 valves and the other is feeding one valve. then theres the throttle cable adjustment. Sure it'll work fine when it's new-- but what about a couple years down the line after many hours of blissful throttle jockying?

They came out late 2000, there are some old models out there that have been beaten round the block and back by now and there have been no complaints that I know of. I think the carbs will last fine, they use those type of carbs on other machines that last forever why would it change if you have two of them?

I agree completely, it makes everything tougher. Especially jetting, its the one reason I haven't gotten exhaust or intake cause i dont want to pay for the $60 jet kit and for installation. I can't wait till i get my c-dale and all i have to mess with is some ***** and maps. hahhaha

QuadFMX,
I hope for your sake C'Dale/ATK has got there stuff together before you start bashing on the Raptor. All the problems the Raptor has are a drop in the bucket compared to what Cannondale motorsports has gone through. The carbs haven't been an issue for me or anyone else I know.

No bashing here- just wondering what the logic was of using two carburetors for a single cylinder and having to jet one leaner than the other when you start doing air box mods and all. I realize that these carburetors have been used on countless other things the trouble only being adjusting both of then to the throttle cable. Hey- the Griz uses only one carb, whats the Diff?

YoshRaptor,
I wasn't bashing on the Raptor. I own one and in fact its the best quad I've ever owned. Only one problem with it so far, the one-way starter clutch got burnt up and went bad. I was just saying that it was less expensive to change a map than to rejet a carb and I didn't even say I had a problem with it. But it is a great quad.
