Rusty Gas Tank
#1
I have a 82 honda 110 and the gas tank is rusty as hell, keeps plugging up the screen, put a fuel filter in the line plugged that up, what do you guys suggest for cleaning this thing up. I already tried some acid on the tank from my parts bike, i forgot about it and now there is no tank left, lol, so any suggestions would be appreciated cuz i really dont have the cash right now to buy a new plastic tank like i would love to do

Somebody .. not sure exactly what company... makes a cream that you pour into the tank... roll it around to ensure entire coverage and then let it sit. It hardens and basically re-lines the entire tank. I had a buddy do this to a 350X. Worked like a champ.
If you can't find it, pm me and I'll give my buddy a call.
Good Luck.

fill up the gas tank about 1/4 full with water and dump in some small beads or rocks or something like that....the stuff that you fill the bottom of a fish tank with works good. shake it up to loosen the rust then take a power hose to squirt all the rust off
hope it works for you.

I heard that after you get all of the rust out that there was some kind of coating that you poured into the tank. But i've never seen any kind of product in stores yet that does that, but i'm gonna watch this post closely cuz my 1985 125m's tank is rusted to hell as well inside.

hate to beat the same drum- but... The product is called Kreme-
From Dennis Kirk Web site
I restored a tank for an 81 ATC 250R with this stuff, it works great! I used the small gravel to knock loose the large scales and big chunks- then I used the "a" part of the prep kit for etching, then the "B" final rinse- then finally the sealer- does a good job and stops all the problems with clogged filters and junk in the carb, etc.
good luck- it takes an afternoon and is a little messy, but worth it to keep a classic alive!

Heres what i did with my 78 atc 90 tank. I went to home depot and bought 2 gallons of Muriatic acid and mixed it 50/50 with water and shook it around in the tank twice and it completely removed the rust. Then i bought the KReme kit and used that. I am running in line fuel filters as well. It came out great. No problems at all.
