decibel levels on baja with a billet end cap?
#1
I am thinking that the billet end cap may be a good way to gain some power on the baja without spending too much but i would like to have an idea of just how loud it is before i buy one ,any opinions on this.?If i go with a billet end cap and install a k&n air filter and leave the lid on what would some suggestions be for a main jet size for an altitude of sea level to 500 feet. I realize that some of what i am asking can be found with a search but i would like as much specific information as i can get. Thanks for any responses.

I've asked the question regarding a USFS spark arrestor with the billet end cap? I have not received an answer. I'm assuming it doesn't exist. A couple of people sell these for about $100. I'm still debating if I should get one or not. I may just spend 500 for the entire Trinity Stage IV exaust system w/pipe.

I don't believe -ANY- aftermarket exhaust will even come close to 93db. The only exhaust rumored to is the LTE dual exhaust (however, it wont meet the 93db limit either, it's targeted at 96db - this could be close enough that you wont get checked for sound though.) Also the MBRP, however people are saying that the MBRP does not have much if any power gain, so at that it will be better to stick with stock.
Oz,
I don't think any of the custom end caps made will ever have USFS approved spark arrestors.

Blackhawk,
Be aware that OREGON does have a 93 limit. However, testers are alowed to forgive an additional 3 db. All of the testers I have met do this. That brings the effective rate to 96 DB at the Oregon Dunes (Florence, Coos Bay, Winchester Bay, Spinreel etc). At Sandlake, no limit is enforced.
I don't know how the law works in other states. But I believe you are correct. If you are at 96DB in a 93DB area, and not acting obnoixious near a tester or law enforcement, you'll be fine. If you dont have your flag, your sticker and you blurp the throttle near a tester, you're asking for it! LOL

Stock Baja X is 92 dB, one of the louder stock machines.
I just attended a NOHVACC Workshop here in New Mexico.
I also took the ATV Safety Institute course, which I thought was pretty good.
I am heavily involved in the legislative process here, and we are fighting an uphill battle against the American Pediatrics Association, Albuquerque E.R. doctors, American Consumer Federation and Natural Trails Coalition (Wilderness Society). They are lobbying for NO riders under 16, period. We are settling for ATV Safety training for riders 10-18, and adult supervision under 16, unless they get a MVD motorcycle/ATV license, available at age 13.
AS far as noise goes, it looks like we are going for the 96 dB limit, which is well on its way to becoming the national standard....

duneitilludie, my first setup. I removed the spark arester and cut the two pipes off on the inside of the stock end cap. just before the reduced pipe. there are baffles in each pipe that will slide out. then reinstall the spark arester. set every thing else to mister hp's settings. this was a very good gain for me. it is a little bit louder. but not that bad. after installing a mbrp full exhaust I did not gain anything more. even lost some top end. but its pretty though. I still have a couple of end caps, one modified if you don't want to butcher your stock one. your welcome to try the one I have if you want. pm me.
