EFI in v700 and polaris sportsman 700
#1
I saw the front cover of dirt wheels mag. Jan issue and polaris is testing an efi sportsman 700, they also had a v 700 on the front cover. I didn't read all the fine print but it looks like before to long jetting will be a thing of the past.

I picked up that issue. The Lava V-Force on the cover had nothing to do with EFI.....just had it pictured to show one of the "fancier" 2004 ATV's for the 2004 season. Cool thing about the Sportsman 700 EFI other than never having to jet the carb is it will start in zero degree temps and the gas mileage is I believe 18% better. I had a 2004 Sportsman 700 (for 1.5 months then sold it for my V-Force) and if the temps fell below 45 degrees plan on nursing the throttle for 15 to 20 min. until it warmed up or she would die on you......it's a BEAR in the winter to start.

My last sentence is somewhat unclear isn't it. Time for bed, he, he. I meant the Sportsman is a bear to start in cold temps. The V-Force starts right up even at 25 degrees as it did the other morning. Don't get me wrong though, other than the Sportsman's sensitivity to start ups in cold temps it ran GREAT. I hated to sell it but I can't afford two beasts. I had the Sportsman hooked up nice too....TEAM Performance Solutions secondary roller clutch, Hot Seat Performance primary clutch spring and weights, 26" Mudrunners on Vision aluminum wheels, Front brush guard, rear bumper, full underbody skid plates ect...... wish I had the money to have kept both.

I have owned EFI snowmobles made by Polaris. 500 and 650.
They were just like a car, don't touch the throttle and they would start up in any weather on the first crank.
The problem was you couldn't move until they warmed up or they would stall and you couldn't get them started.
Can't tell you the number of times, my buddys left me standing there waiting for them to warm up as they rode off at 100 mph.
Polaris has probably fixed the problem by now, but if they haven't, they're not cold weather machines.

During the Rocky Mountain ATV jam, I had a long talk with the Kaw rep. He told me to not buy a P700 until 05, at which time they would have EFI. He said they already built a test unit and they've been running it for a while. It would be a good thing for those of us that run up high.

Here is a lame question?Does EFI affect power in any way? I know that it takes the hastle of jetting out of the picture, but will the convenience of EFI affect overall performance? Be easy on me! I am the first to admit I don't have a clue about EFI beside the whole no jetting thing.

Trailburner, according to the article on the Sportsman EFI they basically say that you will notice that throttle response is fantastic. They don't say anything about increased power but the performance the EFI delivers makes for a smoother and more efficient power delivery.
