New YFZ 450 Will Not Start
#1
I just purchased a brand new Yamaha YFZ 450 today and it will not start at all. I was in a hurry at the dealers so I just told them to load it up thinking there would be no problems with a new bike.I tried a new spark-plug and even charged the battery real good. When I took the factory plug out it was wet but looked like it had been fired on at sometime.I tried another plug and it still will not start. The dealer is about 2hrs away and I really do not want to drive there again.Yes, it has gas and yes the I have all the switches on.It turns over with no problem but will not fire. What is up with my new Yamaha-Dog ?

Oldgun,
If it has gas, air flow to the carb (a freind once stuck a rag in the air box while washing and then couldn't figure out why his bike wouldn't start !!), and the enigne turns over, another thing to check is if there is spark. Remove the plug and insert it into the cap, touch the threaded part of the plug to a head bolt and crank the bike over. You should be able to see if there is spark or not.
Good luck and Im sure once you get it going you will absolutely love it.!!!

when its cold dont give it throttle while its turning over and pull the choke out half way
if you are pumping the throttle while it is turning over it is getting WAY to much gas since the accelerator pump is spraying with each pump

I picked mine up tonight and had no troubles starting it. It is real cold blooded though. I pulled in on the clutch and when I put it in gear it would die. ha ha. Once it warmed up it was great.

I am going to check later today and make sure it has spark.I am not to upset right now about it not starting because the weather is terrible and I really do not care to ride right now.I am thinking this is a "spark" problem so I will check that next. This is my first Yamaha purchase ever and my first new ATV since 1989 . All my prior bikes had been Honda's so I am a little bummed right now.I had always been a Honda man but I think this Yamaha 450 is better than the Honda 450.I will keep you guys informed on what happens. The Temperature here is is in the twentys could that be causing problems?
